Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to restore the once-thriving Edo State Transport Company, Edo Line, to its former glory. The Governor’s commitment came during an inspection of the long-abandoned transport hub along Mission Road in Benin City, where he and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, assessed the deteriorating state of the facility.
The Governor was led on a guided tour of the site by Jaffar Inegbedion, Fleet Manager of Move Monkey, as part of his efforts to gather first-hand information to facilitate the revival of the service. Speaking about the current state of the company, which has been neglected for years under the previous administration, Governor Okpebholo expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of both the infrastructure and fleet.
He said “This place has been completely abandoned, with overgrown vegetation and a fleet that has dwindled to a fraction of its original size,” said Okpebholo. “I am here to assess the situation and see how we can get the remaining vehicles back on the road and locate the others that were once part of the fleet. The goal is to revive Edo Line and put it back into full operation for the benefit of the people of Edo State.”
Governor Okpebholo’s plan to reinvigorate the state-owned transport company is expected to boost public transportation in the state, while creating jobs and increasing revenue for the state government.
