The House of Representatives has commended BudgIT Nigeria for the successful launch of the Tracka 2023/2024 Project Tracking Report, describing it as a vital initiative that promotes transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in governance.
Speaking at the event held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th National Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, to fostering open governance and strengthening legislative oversight.
Rotimi lauded BudgIT and the Tracka team for their unwavering dedication to ensuring government projects move beyond budgetary allocations to deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians. He emphasized the importance of civic oversight in governance, noted that the report’s findings tracking over 1,400 projects across 25 states with a total allocation of ₦282 billion underscored the critical role of citizen participation in monitoring public projects.
“In the 10th National Assembly, we recognize the significance of collaborative governance, where citizens, civil society, and the private sector play active roles in complementing legislative oversight. Platforms like Tracka serve as crucial tools in bridging the gap between policy intent and real-life impact,” Rotimi stated.
The House Spokesman also highlighted the alignment of the Tracka initiative with the legislative agenda’s Open Governance objectives, which prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. He encouraged civil society organizations to embrace a collaborative approach in their engagements with the parliament, cautioning against adversarial interactions that could hinder constructive dialogue.
“The theme of this report, Achieving National Development through Efficient Service Delivery, resonates deeply with our legislative priorities. We remain committed to strengthening the budget process, ensuring proper project execution, and holding implementing agencies accountable,” Rotimi added.
