I had just finished speaking to the Chief Medical Director of Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau on phone on his preparation to the upcoming commissioning of the new 96 bed expansion of the Hospital by the Matawalle administration. He partly had this to say:
“The government has just employed 20 additional consultants, 15 additional doctors, 50 additional Nurses, 80 medical laboratory, Health information and pharmacist. As well as 50 more paramedics for the hospital.
“I have information on some states that can not even pay salary of their health workers due to economic hardship and other sundry factors.
“As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and Fellow of West African College of Surgeons, I think I am equipped professionally to assess the dropping health indices in Zamfara state in terms of Maternal and Neonatal mortality rates in the last 2 years.
“His Excellency Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has done well and must not be distracted by those scavengers whose intentions are to paint us negative”.
