Renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer, Frank Tietie, has been invited by the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Court) to serve as a judge in its Inaugural Moot Court Competition scheduled for June 14, 2025, in Niger State, Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tietie expressed his profound appreciation for the honour, describing the ECOWAS Court as a regional judicial institution that has consistently upheld the highest standards of justice, particularly in human rights adjudication.
“Throughout my years as a practising lawyer in the realm of human rights and as an observer of the ECOWAS Court’s proceedings and judgments, I have witnessed the Court operate with the highest standards of justice delivery in human rights issues, comparable to any regional or international court,” Tietie said.
He pledged to bring his vast experience in human rights law and his longstanding engagement with the ECOWAS Court to bear in his role during the competition.
Tietie also expressed gratitude to the President of the ECOWAS Court, Honourable Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, for deeming him worthy of the assignment, which he noted was personally communicated through a letter signed by the President.
The upcoming Moot Court Competition aim to foster legal education and advocacy among young legal minds across the West African subregion, while also deepening awareness of the ECOWAS Court’s mandate and jurisprudence.
