The incident, which occurred during an event organized by Agidigbo Radio and Women in Need of Guidance and Support (WINGS), has plunged the state into mourning.
In a statement signed by Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, the House of Oduduwa expressed deep grief over the loss of young lives. The statement also praised the Oyo State Government, particularly Governor Seyi Makinde, for its prompt response to the incident.
“The House of Oduduwa shares in the grief and pain that has engulfed the affected families. We pray that Olodumare grants them the fortitude to bear this trying time,” the statement read.
The former queen of Ile Oodua, Ms. Naomi Silekunola Ogunseyi, who co-organized the event through her initiative, WINGS, was commended for her longstanding dedication to supporting indigent children during festive seasons. The House encouraged her and other organizers to remain steadfast in their mission, while learning from the tragedy to ensure better safety measures in future events.
The statement also called for immediate action to enhance safety standards and child welfare policies across the country, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders.
The House of Oduduwa criticized certain bloggers for sensationalizing the tragedy with unverified reports, urged media practitioners to prioritize professionalism and sensitivity in their coverage of such incidents.
“This sorrowful moment should inspire a renewed commitment to protecting our children, preserving our shared humanity, and upholding the values of truth and empathy,” the statement concluded.
The House of Oduduwa pledged its support for all efforts to provide solace to the bereaved families and prevent future tragedies, urging unity and compassion during this challenging time.
