The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has promised a more robust partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), particularly in ensuring the safety and security of Corps members across the country.
Egbetokun made this commitment during a courtesy visit by the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, in Abuja. He praised Brigadier General Nafiu as a professional and thoroughbred Army Officer and reiterated the long-standing collaboration between the Police and the NYSC. The IGP highlighted the importance of strengthening this relationship, especially in the face of the current security challenges affecting the nation.
The Police boss commended the NYSC for its vital contributions to promoting national unity and integration since its inception in 1973. He also acknowledged the impressive performance of the NYSC National Cultural Troupe during the recent National Police Day Celebration held in Abuja.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Nafiu expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force for its continued efforts in securing NYSC facilities, including Orientation Camps, offices, and Corps Lodges nationwide. He also lauded the Police for providing special surveillance teams during Orientation Courses to ensure the safe transportation of Corps members and staff.
Nafiu appealed for increased support during the upcoming Orientation Course, set to run from April 23 to May 13, 2025. He also shared the NYSC’s recent shift towards youth empowerment, aiming to equip them with skills that will enable them to become business owners and employers of labour, thus contributing to the fight against social vices.
