The organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Friday announced the commencement of a nationwide indefinite strike starting from Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
This decision comes in response to the ongoing deadlock in the tripartite committee’s negotiations for a new minimum wage.
The organised labour expressed frustration over the government’s lack of commitment and representation at the negotiation meeting on Friday.
Though, the labour leaders explained that the decision to embark on the strike was made following the expiration of an earlier ultimatum issued to the Federal Government, demanding the conclusion of all minimum wage negotiations by the end of May.
Recall that the organised labour unions had previously withdrawn from negotiations and rejected two proposals from the Federal Government, with the latest offer being N60,000.
Labour made it clear that they will not tolerate any further delays or excuses, asserting that the welfare of Nigerian workers and citizens are non-negotiable.
