The Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged the newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to justify their elevation by demonstrating diligence, fairness, and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Minister, represented by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major General Abdulmalik Jubril (Rtd), gave the charge on Wednesday during the decoration ceremony of 22 Assistant Commandants General of Corps held at the Dr. Ade Abolurin Auditorium, Abuja.
He noted that promotion came with greater accountability, stressing the need for the senior officers to bring innovation to bear in addressing Nigeria’s current security challenges.
“I charge you to redeem the confidence reposed in you with this new rank by bringing innovation that will stem the tide of present security challenges in the country and discharge your duties with utmost responsibility,” the Minister said.
In his remarks, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said the promotion would boost the morale of the officers, urging them to remain loyal, dedicated, and professional while mentoring their subordinates.
Prof. Audi commended the Minister of Interior for reforms that have cleared stagnation in the Corps’ promotion structure, assuring that the leadership would sustain such initiatives.
Also speaking, Deputy Commandant General (Administration), DCG Adeyinka Fasiu Ayinla represented by Assistant Commandant General (Administration), Farouk Umar Boyi, CPP praised the Minister for strengthening the Corps’ capacity to tackle security threats, improve personnel welfare, promote economic stability, and enhance inter-agency collaboration.
The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from the Controller General of Corrections, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, and Major General MK Yunusa (Rtd), who were represented by senior officials. The oath of allegiance was administered by the Officer in Charge of Legal, Commandant of Corps, Bamiyo Akomolafe.
In a related development, the Commandant General presented cheques worth ₦5 million to the next of kin of two fallen NSCDC personnel—Late CCA Anyamele Justice and Late AIC Bello Bako Musa who lost their lives during “Operations Plug” at Obiakpu Village, Abia State, on February 25, 2025.
