The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed deep concern over the recent coordinated explosions in Maiduguri, describing the attacks as alarming and calling for urgent action from the Federal Government.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group’s Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, condemned the multiple blasts which reportedly claimed 23 lives and left over 100 others injured.
According to MURIC, the explosions occurred almost simultaneously on Monday at three locations, including the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and two busy markets; Post Office Market and Monday Market.
The organization described the scale and coordination of the attacks as “highly challenging,” noting what it called a fluctuating pattern in the performance of security agencies in Borno State.
MURIC further lamented the growing insecurity in the northern region, particularly in the North-East and North-West, stressed that the loss of lives remains unacceptable and demands immediate intervention.
The group also urged the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, to fulfill his commitment to safeguarding Nigerians, warning that citizens continue to feel unsafe amid rising attacks and kidnappings.
In its statement, MURIC called on the government to intensify efforts to restore security and ensure that Nigerians can live without fear, adding that the current situation requires decisive and sustained action.
“The clock is ticking. Nigerians deserve to live and work without fear,” the statement read.
The latest incident added to ongoing security challenges in the region, which has experienced years of insurgency and violence.
