The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to enhance airpower effectiveness and joint force integration in the North East with an operational assessment visit by the Commandant of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri.
The visit was aimed at interfacing with aircrew deployed in the theatre and engaging the Theatre Commander as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen mission-oriented training and integrated operations. Air Vice Marshal Jibia noted that the engagement aligned with the Chief of the Air Staff’s philosophy, which places emphasis on deliberate training and force development to build a professional and combat-ready Air Force.
He stressed the importance of airmindedness and synergy among the Services, noting that enhanced joint training and coordinated operations remain critical to achieving operational success. The AWDC Commandant commended the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for his leadership and the notable successes recorded by troops of Operation HADIN KAI, described him as a mentor and seasoned commander.
Air Vice Marshal Jibia praised the gallantry and resilience of personnel in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations and assured them of the continued support of the Armed Forces and well-meaning Nigerians. He reaffirmed the commitment of the AWDC to supporting Operation HADIN KAI and assured that observations and concerns raised during the briefing would be addressed to further improve operational effectiveness.
During the visit, the AWDC Commandant received comprehensive briefings on ongoing operations in the theatre, providing the basis for informed recommendations aimed at strengthening air-ground coordination and mission execution.
In his remarks, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar congratulated Air Vice Marshal Jibia on his recent promotion and appointment as Commandant AWDC, described him as an experienced pilot whose expertise would further enhance joint operations. He expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed Operation HADIN KAI’s readiness to adopt AWDC’s innovative ideas on joint training and exercises.
The Theatre Commander also acknowledged the sustained commitment and sacrifices of the Nigerian Air Force in capacity development and operational support within the North East theatre.
The visit was attended by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, Component Commanders, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Theatre Command, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, and other Principal Staff Officers. Highlights included operational briefings, interactive sessions, exchange of souvenirs and group photographs.
