The Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN) has inaugurated its Naval Warfare Course 10, aimed at strengthening operational-level capacity in maritime and joint warfare among senior military officers.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Friday, 23 January 2026, at the NWCN Auditorium, marked the commencement of an intensive programme designed to prepare selected officers for higher command, managerial and leadership responsibilities.
A total of 34 Senior Officers were inducted into the course, including 26 officers from the Nigerian Navy, two each from the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, as well as six international participants from allied nations. The foreign officers comprised four from the Republic of Cameroon and one each from Liberia and Ghana.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Mohammed Adamu Muye, welcomed guests and participants, congratulating the officers on their selection. He urged them to take full advantage of the learning opportunities provided by the programme and charged them to acquire the professional knowledge, skills and strategic insight needed to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The highlight of the ceremony was the inaugural lecture titled “Leveraging Technologically Driven Intelligence for Effective Military Operations: Armed Forces of Nigeria in Perspective.” The lecture was delivered by the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser, Major General A.G. Laka, who was represented by the Director of Intelligence, Brigadier General P.T. Gbor. The lecture focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chiedozie Donald Okehie, described technologically driven intelligence as a vital force multiplier. He noted that when properly integrated, it enhances the reach, speed, precision and persistence of military operations.
Rear Admiral Okehie further urged the participants to remain custodians of trust, champions of innovation and strong advocates of joint operations, stressing that maritime security is an inter-agency responsibility.
The Naval Warfare Course is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture and enhance cooperation among the Armed Forces and allied nations.
