The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday welcomed students of Sheikh Abubakar Gummi Academy, Abuja, to its Headquarters for an educational visit aimed at deepening their understanding of disaster management and emergency response operations.
During the visit, the students were taken on a guided tour of NEMA’s Geospatial Centre, where officials explained how modern technology is deployed for disaster risk analysis, early warning systems, and the coordination of response efforts across the country. The session exposed the students to the critical role of data and mapping tools in predicting and managing emergencies.
The students were also introduced to various search and rescue equipment used in real-life emergency situations. NEMA officials conducted live demonstrations, giving the visitors practical insight into how emergency responders operate during crises.
As part of the interactive programme, the students participated in hands-on first aid training designed to equip them with essential life-saving skills. The practical session emphasized the importance of prompt and appropriate response in emergency situations.
Speaking during the visit, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, encouraged the students to cultivate a strong culture of safety consciousness and preparedness in their daily lives. She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting disaster management awareness among young Nigerians as part of broader efforts to build resilient communities nationwide.
The visit formed part of NEMA’s ongoing public enlightenment initiatives to strengthen disaster preparedness through education and community engagement.
