The newly appointed Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has assured staff and Corps Members of his commitment to transparent leadership, improved welfare, and enhanced productivity within the Scheme.
Speaking during his assumption of office at a colorful ceremony held at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, General Nafiu emphasized that his tenure would focus on strengthening job creation initiatives to enable Corps Members to transition seamlessly into the private sector during and after their service year.
He lauded the establishment of the NYSC in 1973 as a visionary initiative that has fostered national unity, socio-cultural integration, and mutual understanding among Nigerian youths, irrespective of their backgrounds.
“The welfare and well-being of Corps Members will always be a top priority,” he stated. “My team and I shall work tirelessly to enhance camp feeding, hygiene, and the kitting of our Corps Members. Under my leadership, excellence shall thrive. I assure all NYSC staff and Corps Members of the quality leadership necessary for our time.”
General Nafiu further highlighted the NYSC’s contributions to national development, particularly through Corps Members’ community service initiatives. He called on stakeholders and the Nigerian public to support the Scheme’s growth and sustainability.
“I seek your understanding and support in driving the programs I intend to implement to improve our collective welfare and career development. We must be exemplary leaders for the Corps Members under our watch and refine our strategies to fulfill the Scheme’s objectives,” he added.
The 23rd NYSC DG expressed his determination to reposition the Scheme for greater impact and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in achieving its mandate.
