The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has applauded the recent electoral victories of four Nigerians in the United Kingdom, describing their emergence into key leadership positions as a testament to the resilience and excellence of Nigerians in the diaspora.
In a statement signed by Mr. Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Dr. Adekunle Osibogun, Princess Opeyemi Bright, Councillor Jason Utitofon Jackson, and Councillor Sunny Lambe for breaking barriers and setting new records in their political journeys.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed particular pride in Princess Opeyemi Bright, who made history as the youngest-ever Mayor of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, and Cllr. Jason Utitofon Jackson, who became the first Black Mayor of Islington. She also celebrated Cllr. Sunny Lambe’s elevation to Mayor of Southwark after years of distinguished service, and the re-election of Dr. Adekunle Osibogun to both Buckinghamshire Council and Buckingham Town Council.
“These are record-breaking milestones that reflect the outstanding contributions, determination, and leadership capabilities of Nigerians in the diaspora,” Dabiri-Erewa stated. “Their achievements bring immense pride to the nation and reinforce the need to harness the potentials of Nigerians abroad for national development.”
She commended their dedication to service and urged them to remain steadfast and committed as they take on greater responsibilities. She also offered prayers for divine guidance, protection, and strength as they serve their communities.
NiDCOM reaffirmed its continued support for Nigerians excelling abroad and pledged to keep highlighting and celebrating their successes as a way of inspiring others.
