The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, a Nigerian-born dermatologist based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on his historic election as the President of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
In a statement issued by the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, described Ogunyemi’s achievement as a groundbreaking milestone, noting that he is the first Black individual to assume the prestigious position in the CMA’s 158-year history.
Dabiri-Erewa lauded Ogunyemi’s dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence, stating that his success exemplifies the power of determination. She encouraged other Nigerians in the diaspora to emulate Ogunyemi’s example and strive to be the best in their respective fields, bringing pride and recognition to Nigeria.
Dr. Ogunyemi’s victory come after a series of intense elections, and he will serve as the President-elect until the CMA General Council ratifies his position in May 2025. As President, he will represent the CMA in interactions with media outlets, provincial and territorial medical associations, and government bodies across Canada.
