The Niger State Police Command has rolled out comprehensive security measures for the Christmas and New Year festivities, deploying personnel and operational assets across the state to ensure a peaceful celebration.
The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, said the deployment was necessitated by the increased human and vehicular movement that typically characterises the Yuletide season. He explained that the measures are aimed at safeguarding lives and property before, during and after the festivities.
CP Elleman directed Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure adequate security coverage at public places, including places of worship, recreation centres, amusement parks, motor parks and major highways across the state.
He further instructed officers to strictly adhere to the operational order for the season, emphasising intelligence-led and high-visibility policing, respect for human rights, and the need to guarantee the safety of travellers and free flow of traffic. According to him, the deployment complements ongoing joint “Show of Force” and township patrols under Operation Flush, as well as sustained raids on identified crime-prone areas to prevent criminal activities and enable swift response to any incident.
While calling on residents to celebrate responsibly, the Commissioner reiterated that the ban on fireworks remained in force, warned that violations could lead to fire outbreaks and destruction of property. He urged Nigerlites, particularly Christian faithful, to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.
CP Elleman assured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property. On behalf of officers and men of the Command, he wished Nigerlites, residents and Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
