The Niger State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the arrest of several suspects for house breaking, theft, thuggery, and drug-related offences, as well as the rescue of abducted victims across the state.
In a statement issued on February 2, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that on January 26, 2026, police operatives at ‘B’ Division, Suleja, arrested one Ahmed Jibril in connection with multiple cases of house breaking and theft.
The arrest followed complaints from about 13 residents of Rafin-Senyi/Kwata area, who reported that their homes were repeatedly burgled between November 2025 and January 24, 2026. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes and led police to his father’s uncompleted building, where several stolen items were recovered.
Recovered items included mattresses, gas cylinders, wardrobes, fans, rugs, kitchen utensils, electronics, footwear, curtains, and other household property. The items were identified by the victims. Police also revealed that part of the stolen goods had been sold in Madalla, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the receivers.
In another development, police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Bida, arrested one Sani Ndagi, 25, in connection with a burglary in the GRA area of Bida. The incident, which occurred on January 23, 2026, involved the theft of three power generators and two air conditioner compressors.
Following investigations, all stolen items were recovered. One Aliyu Umar, 45, was also arrested for receiving one of the compressors. Both suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue.
The command also recorded success in tackling thuggery and drug-related offences. On January 21, 2026, police operatives arrested one Abubakar Umar, 28, at Sabon-Gari Market with 81 wraps of suspected cannabis and 45 illicit tablets. Similarly, on January 27, 2026, one Idris Ibrahim, 20, was arrested in Saiko with suspected cannabis and a long knife during a raid operation.
Both suspects are undergoing investigation.
Meanwhile, on February 1, 2026, a joint security team rescued ten abducted victims in Mariga Local Government Area. The victims were freed after security operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun battle at Mai-Laka village along the Bangi–Kotonkoro road.
During the encounter, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled. The rescued victims were from Yauri, Dusai, Dogon-Fadama, and Yabawa villages. Several motorcycles belonging to the suspects were also recovered.
The police said clearance operations are ongoing to ensure the arrest of the fleeing criminals.
SP Abiodun reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
