The Niger State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected female arms courier, a notorious child abductor, and several other suspects linked to robbery, phone snatching and unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested one Zuwaira Usman, 35, of Pandogari in Rafi Local Government Area, over her alleged involvement in transporting ammunition for criminal elements.
According to the police, Zuwaira was arrested on November 4, 2025, following credible intelligence. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to being contracted by one Lawali in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State, to travel to Warri, Delta State, where she collected a sack containing a flask loaded with 2,500 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, allegedly supplied by one Ahmed. While Ahmed has since been arrested in Delta State, efforts are ongoing to apprehend Lawali as investigations continue.
In a related development, the police also arrested a notorious suspected child abductor, Aminu Ahmed, 25, of Kontagora, on November 27, 2025. The suspect allegedly confessed to abducting three children at different times in 2025, transporting them to Lagos and Ilorin, and collected ransoms totaling over ₦2 million before releasing the victims in various locations within Niger State. The suspect is currently under further investigation.
The Command further reported the arrest of Muhammed Mahmud, 25, of Zuba area, who was intercepted on November 3, 2025, along the Izom–Abuchi–Suleja road with a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a cartridge. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna.
Similarly, two suspected phone snatchers, Hassan Abdullahi, 19, and Khalifa Bashir, 21, were arrested on December 10, 2025, in Minna while operating a tricycle. Three suspected stolen Android phones were recovered from them, and they reportedly confessed to robbing unsuspecting passengers.
In another operation, police patrol teams recovered two improvised guns concealed in bushes near a mountain after Zuma Rock along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. The weapons were suspected to have been used by armed robbers operating in the area.
Additionally, two suspected armed robbers, Adamu Usman, 29, an ex-convict, and Umar Mohammed Bello, 31, were arrested in Kagarko, Kaduna State, in connection with a robbery incident in Kuchiko Tunga-Maje area of Suleja. A third suspect, Zakariyau Mohammed, 25, was also arrested for conspiracy and theft of household items, while efforts to arrest other fleeing suspects are ongoing.
SP Abiodun reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety of lives and property across Niger State.
