The Niger State Police Command on Saturday, November 29, 2025, commenced activities marking the 70th Anniversary of Women in Policing with a 5km road walk involving female officers across the Command.
According to a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the commemorative activities were designed to celebrate the sacrifices, achievements and evolving role of women in the Nigeria Police Force over the past seven decades.
The symbolic road walk, led by ACP Leticia Onwuchekwa, kicked off at the State Police Headquarters in Dutsen-Kura, moved through Government House, Minna, and terminated at the Obasanjo Shopping Complex. The procession, accompanied by melodious tunes from the Command’s Police Band, drew the admiration of residents along the route.
As part of the week-long celebration, a Women’s Conference is scheduled for Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Police Officers’ Mess, Minna. Serving and retired female officers will converge for lectures on health, ethics, and discipline to be delivered by the Command’s Medical Officer, ACP Sekat B. Tapshak; ACP Leticia Onwuchekwa; and CSP Ebi Kosipre, among others.
The programme will continue on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, when the women police team, again led by ACP Onwuchekwa, visits the Police Secondary School, Minna, for a career talk. Educational and personal hygiene materials will also be donated to students.
The celebration will culminate on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, when selected serving and retired women officers from Niger State proceed to Abuja for the grand finale of the national event.
The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, congratulated women officers in the State for their resilience and invaluable contributions to policing and community safety.
