The Niger State Government has resumed the payment of gratuities to retired State and Local Government workers as part of its ongoing efforts to clear outstanding pension liabilities and improve the welfare of retirees.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday in Minna by the Director of Information and Orientation, Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim.
According to the statement, the exercise underscores the commitment of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration to ensuring that retired public servants receive their entitlements without unnecessary delay.
The government disclosed that gratuity payments have so far been completed up to Batch 11 for State Government retirees, while payment for Batch 12 will commence immediately. It also announced the resumption of gratuity payments for Batch 3 of Local Government retirees.
The statement noted that the administration has continued to sustain the prompt payment of monthly pensions while gradually offsetting accumulated gratuity arrears owed to retirees across the state.
It added that the Ministry of Information and Orientation remains committed to keeping residents informed about government policies and programmes, promoting transparency and effective communication of government activities.
The state government commended the Director-General of the Niger State Pension Board, Alhaji Nasiru Saidu Namaska, alongside the management and staff of the board, for ensuring a transparent and seamless payment process.
It also appreciated retirees for their patience and understanding, assuring them of the administration’s continued commitment to their welfare.
Beneficiaries were urged to cooperate with the Niger State Pension Board to ensure a smooth and hitch-free payment exercise.
