Nigeria congratulates India on 77th Republic Day, reaffirms bilateral ties

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of India on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day anniversary, described the celebration as a symbol of India’s enduring commitment to democracy and good governance.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, and issued on Monday in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, congratulated India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on the historic milestone.

Ambassador Tuggar noted that India’s Republic Day mark the adoption of its Constitution and reflects the nation’s dedication to democracy, the rule of law, pluralism, and inclusive governance. He commended India’s steady progress over the past seven decades, highlighting its achievements in technological innovation, economic development, and global leadership.

He further acknowledged India’s growing influence in international affairs and its contributions to peace, development, and multilateral cooperation.

According to the Minister, Nigeria valued India as a key partner in advancing South–South cooperation and promoting the collective interests of the Global South. He praised India’s commitment to development partnerships, capacity building, and people-centred cooperation across Africa and beyond.

The statement emphasized that both countries enjoy long-standing and cordial bilateral relations based on shared values, mutual respect, and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, healthcare, education, and energy.

Ambassador Tuggar also noted that Nigeria and India continue to collaborate closely within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, in pursuit of peace, sustainable development, and a more equitable global order.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to further strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties with India for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The statement concluded with Nigeria conveying its goodwill to the Government and people of India and wishing the country continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
