In an extraordinary display of determination and resilience, Assistant Comptroller Akpevwe Ogboru of the Nigeria Customs Service has successfully completed a historic 72-day solo motorbike journey that spanned 22 countries across Africa and Europe. Ogboru returned to Nigeria on October 11, 2025, to a hero’s welcome at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post, where she was greeted by senior officials, including Comptroller Wale Adenuga and other key figures within the Customs Service.
Ogboru’s journey, which began on August 1, 2025, was not only a remarkable physical and mental achievement but also a platform for advocating women’s empowerment and gender inclusivity. Traveling over 15,000 kilometers through diverse landscapes from deserts to mountain ranges Ogboru traversed both familiar and unfamiliar territories, embodying resilience and endurance throughout her trip.
“I’ve spent 72 days in 22 countries, and I am thrilled to be back home,” Ogboru said, visibly moved as she recounted the highs and lows of her journey. “Despite the challenges, I focused on maintaining a positive mindset. Whenever difficulties arose, I trusted my faith and remained determined. There were times when my motorbike, Rocky, encountered small mechanical issues, but I kept moving forward, trusting that everything would work out.”
Ogboru’s journey was motivated by her desire to encourage women, particularly the girl-child, to overcome societal barriers and pursue their dreams without fear or hesitation. “This journey was for women’s empowerment. It’s about telling women that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and stay focused,” Ogboru stated. “Fear is the greatest obstacle. But when you embrace positivity and stay true to your goals, you can conquer anything.”
Her expedition also aimed to promote stronger diplomatic and economic ties between Africa and Europe. By linking the two continents through her personal journey, Ogboru hopes to inspire greater collaboration and mutual growth. “There is much we can learn from each other,” she emphasized. “Africa and Europe are both rich in culture and resources, and my hope is that this journey fosters greater understanding and cooperation.”
The welcome ceremony at the Seme-Krake border was a fitting tribute to Ogboru’s achievements.
