The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, commissioned the newly renovated Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Ajegunle, Lagos, reaffirming the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under its “Customs Cares” initiative.
The project, executed by the Tincan Island Port Command, mark a significant investment in the education sector, particularly in underserved communities. The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including His Royal Highness Oba Muhammed Maruf, the Olumakinwa of Apapa Kingdom; Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, Mayor Fatai Ayeola; and the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamiu Ali-Balogun.
In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi described the project as a symbol of renewed hope and a strategic effort to provide a conducive learning environment for future leaders.
“We are happy that our intervention has provided a better learning environment for all our students. More importantly, it has ignited renewed hope that under President Bola Tinubu, our children can learn in a good environment and aspire to be the best they can be in their careers,” he said.
The CGC also flagged off the distribution of educational items including uniforms, shoes, raincoats, and bags—to 2,000 school pupils as part of the larger “Customs Cares” target to support 50,000 students nationwide in 2025. He emphasized that the Customs Service remains committed to complementing government efforts across five additional areas: healthcare, the creative industry, potable water, ICT, and community development.
Assistant Comptroller-General Charles Orbih, Zonal Coordinator Zone A, stressed the importance of Customs’ leadership role in pioneering sustainable community engagement initiatives, while Comptroller Patience Ibrahim, Head of the CSR Unit, said the intervention reinforces the Service’s long-term commitment to social impact.
Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Customs Area Controller of Tincan Island Port Command, expressed appreciation to partners and stakeholders who supported the project, noting that community support remains vital to Customs’ operations.
The school’s Headmistress, Esther Ogunfuyi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Service, describing the renovation and donation as a testament to the Customs’ belief in the potential of every Nigerian child.
The event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, cultural performances by pupils, and a formal handover of educational materials to the students.
