The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has further strengthened its community impact in Lagos with the renovation of Methodist Primary School, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, and the commissioning of the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena at the Western Marine Command. The twin projects were officially unveiled on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, in the presence of traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, and well-wishers.
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi described the initiatives as a testament to the Service’s commitment to meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “This is the kind of impact we want to make through our CSR. It is gratifying not only to Customs management but also to the community members we serve,” he said.
The school renovation transformed 15 classroom blocks, creating a modern learning environment with computer rooms, a library, teachers’ and pupils’ toilets, a clinic, a multipurpose hall, a playground, a food vendor area, and 15 solar security lights. Former and current Lilypond Export Command officials, Comptrollers Ajibola Odusanya (Rtd) and Samuel Ariyibi, emphasized education as a powerful driver of social progress, urging the school to establish a maintenance unit to safeguard the facilities. Headmistress Felicia Oyatoye thanked the Customs Service for the “laudable project,” noting it would significantly improve teaching and learning outcomes.
In a parallel initiative, CGC Adeniyi inaugurated the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena at the Western Marine Command, described it as a strategic investment in fitness, mental well-being, and community engagement. “This facility is built to be used and utilised. Our jobs are demanding, and we must maintain the right balance,” he said, encouraging officers across all commands to embrace the arena.
Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, highlighted the importance of community partnership in sustaining the facility, adding, “This facility belongs to the community, and we trust it will be protected, properly utilised, and maintained.”
The commissioning featured tours of both facilities, with CGC Adeniyi actively participating in sporting activities, underscoring the Service’s dual focus on promoting education, healthy lifestyles, and stronger community ties.
The events demonstrated how strategic CSR initiatives by the NCS are enhancing education, wellness, and social cohesion in Lagos communities.
