Nigeria and Egypt have taken bold steps to enhance economic, trade, and diplomatic cooperation as a delegation of over 30 top Egyptian CEOs arrived in Nigeria to explore strategic investment opportunities.
The high-level meeting held in Abuja brought together Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty. The talks focused on fostering stronger ties in agriculture, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, ICT, and other critical sectors.
Ambassador Tuggar noted that Egypt’s participation demonstrates a deep interest in supporting Nigeria’s development and unlocking mutual benefits through sustainable partnerships.
“They have some of the biggest agricultural players in Africa, successfully transforming desert lands into fertile farms,” Tuggar stated. “They are ready to bring that expertise here, alongside investments in power, energy, gas, and minerals.”
He further disclosed that both countries are working towards launching a Nigeria–Egypt Joint Commission to consolidate bilateral initiatives and fast-track the establishment of the Nigeria–Egypt Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt’s readiness for a “win-win” investment approach.
“We have more than 30 leading companies across sectors, and we are here because we believe Nigeria offers huge potential and a conducive investment environment,” he said. “Our political relationship is already excellent; now we must elevate our economic engagement.”
The discussions also addressed easing trade barriers, promoting youth innovation, expanding academic exchanges, and enhancing defence cooperation. Both sides agreed to collaborate more effectively under regional platforms such as the African Union, AfCFTA, and D-8.
This strategic engagement, officials said, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s 4D Foreign Policy Strategy – Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora – and signals a renewed push for pan-African cooperation anchored on mutual growth and prosperity.
