The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over reports of an Israeli airstrike carried out on 9 September 2025 in Doha, Qatar, reportedly targeting senior members of the Hamas leadership.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria underscored the primacy of respecting the sovereignty of nations and adhering to international law, particularly regarding the use of force across borders.
The statement noted that the development raised serious concerns about regional stability and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“Nigeria acknowledges Qatar’s longstanding role in fostering dialogue and mediation in the region. In this context, Nigeria urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation, and recommit to peaceful engagement,” the Ministry said.
The Federal Government also extended heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the incident and reiterated its unwavering support for initiatives promoting de-escalation, dialogue, and durable peace.
Nigeria further reaffirmed its commitment to working with members of the international community, within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond.
