The Federal Ministry of Education has formalised a strategic partnership with Institute of Technical Education Education Services (ITEES) of Singapore to strengthen Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, Folasade Boriowo, said the agreement was signed during a ceremony linking officials in Abuja and Singapore, with Nigeria represented by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Singapore represented by ITEES.
Boriowo explained that the collaboration builds on engagements initiated during the 2025 visit of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, to Singapore where he met with Singapore’s Minister of Education, Desmond Lee, and toured campuses of the Institute of Technical Education.
She added that further consultations were later held with Singapore’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lim Sim Seng, leading to the formalisation of the agreement.
According to the ministry, the partnership will see ITEES implement a Train-the-Trainer programme aimed at strengthening the pedagogical and assessment capacity of TVET instructors across Nigeria. The initiative will also provide leadership training in Singapore for principals and heads of departments of technical institutions.
The collaboration will further introduce the Global Excellence Model for Skills Training (GEMSET), which is expected to help benchmark Nigerian institutions against international standards.
Boriowo noted that the initiative supports ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to reposition technical education as a key driver of economic growth, job creation and industrial development in the country.
