The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam following the destruction caused by Typhoon Kajiki in parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria expressed deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones and to those whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed by the devastating storm.
Typhoon Kajiki triggered a landslide in central Vietnam, leaving three people dead, thirteen injured, and nearly 7,000 homes damaged. The storm also caused widespread flooding and power outages that affected the central and northern regions, including the capital, Hanoi.
Nigeria commended the swift and concerted efforts of the Vietnamese authorities in coordinating emergency response operations, evacuating residents, and providing immediate relief to affected citizens.
The statement further conveyed Nigeria’s confidence in the resilience of the Vietnamese people to overcome the tragedy and rebuild their communities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the nation during this difficult time,” the Ministry noted.
