The Nigerian Navy has decorated seven officers with their new ranks of Lieutenant Commander during a ceremony held at Naval Headquarters, Abuja, on Friday, 15 August 2025.

The event, known in naval tradition as the “Shipping of Stripes”, marked a key career milestone for the officers, honouring their exceptional dedication to service and the defence of the nation’s maritime domain.
Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, congratulated the officers and their families, commended their professionalism and commitment. He stressed that the promotions reflected not only individual achievements but also the invaluable support of their spouses and loved ones.
“You must now rise to the expectation of leadership, professionalism, and excellence. This is not just a new rank it is a call to greater responsibility as Lieutenant Commanders in the Nigerian Navy. You must put in your best effort to combat insecurity and maritime crimes,” the CNS charged.

The decoration was witnessed by families, Branch Chiefs, Directors, senior officers, and well-wishers.
