The Nigerian NewsTime Newspaper has reinforced its commitment to combating illicit drugs during its official programme held yesterday at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) headquarters, Abuja bringing together key stakeholders from the media, public communication, and national development sectors.
The event convened by Bola Alesinloye, Publisher of Nigerian NewsTime Newspaper, demonstrated the organization’s proactive engagement on issues affecting national security, youth welfare, and socio-economic stability.
In his remarks,the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by Mrs. Theresa Maduekewe, Director of Abuse, Rights and Narcotics, highlighted the Agency’s active support for national awareness campaigns.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Jide Oyekunle, Secretary of the FCT Council, also reaffirmed the strong collaboration between the media and national institutions in promoting responsible journalism and civic education.
A key feature of the programme was a public lecture titled “Illicit Drugs, Insecurity and Nigeria’s Economy,” which explored the link between drug misuse, rising insecurity, and economic challenges, stressed the need for coordinated action among government, civil society, and the media.
During the event, the Schools Project: “Campaign Against Illicit Drugs” by the Nigerian NewsTime Foundation was officially unveiled. The initiative aimed to educate students and schools on the dangers of drug abuse and empower youth to take active roles in preventing illicit drug use.
Additionally, a new educational book, “Dangers of Illicit Drugs,” was launched, and awards were presented to notable achievers across Nigeria in recognition of their contributions to public enlightenment and national development.
Speaking on the programme’s success, Bola Alesinloye, Publisher and Convener, reaffirmed the newspaper’s commitment to responsible journalism, youth engagement, and initiatives that strengthen societal well-being and national security.
