The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that its ongoing ward-level enrolment drive for the National Identification Number (NIN) is progressing steadily across the country.
The decentralised enrolment exercise, which officially commenced on February 16, 2026, is designed to expand access to identity registration services at the grassroots level and accelerate inclusive identity coverage nationwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen and legal resident is captured in the national identity database.
NIMC reiterated that the NIN remained a foundational requirement for accessing critical government services in Nigeria. It therefore urged all citizens and legal residents who are yet to enrol to take advantage of the ward-level initiative by presenting themselves at designated enrolment centres within their communities.
To ensure a seamless registration process, the Commission advised members of the public to check its official website to locate the nearest designated enrolment point within their ward, cooperate with enrolment officials, and provide accurate information during registration.
The Commission also encouraged Nigerians to rely solely on its verified communication platforms for updates and information, including its official website, www.nimc.gov.ng, and its social media handles on Facebook (@nimcng), X (formerly Twitter) (@nimc_ng), Instagram (@nimc_ng), and LinkedIn (National Identity Management Commission).

NIMC further highlighted additional services available to the public, including pre-enrolment through penrol.nimc.gov.ng and data modification via selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.
Nigerians were also encouraged to download the NINAUTH application on iOS and the Google Play Store to access digital identity services.
The Commission reaffirmed its resolve to provide assured identity for all and called on citizens and residents to come out en masse to obtain their National Identification Number.
