The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has launched an ambitious initiative to embed digital literacy across all levels of Nigeria’s education system.
The partnership, unveiled during a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, by the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, and his management team, seek to prepare Nigerian youth for a digital-driven future.
As part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the initiative targeted 70% digital literacy in the short term and 95% by 2030. It aimed to transform education from the foundational level to tertiary institutions, ensuring no child is left behind in the nation’s journey toward global competitiveness.
“The future is digital,” Inuwa stated, emphasized the need to equip students with the skills required to thrive in the evolving global economy. “This collaboration ensures that education becomes a launchpad for innovation and leadership in the digital space,” he added.
In remarks,Dr. Alausa commended NITDA’s forward-thinking approach, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a digitally literate population. “Education is the bedrock of national development. Through this partnership, we will equip young Nigerians to adapt to and drive change,” he said.
Key stakeholders, including CISCO, NBTE, NUC, NTI, and UBEC, have pledged their support for this transformative initiative. It will focus on curriculum development, teacher training, infrastructure deployment, and addressing regional disparities to ensure equal access to digital resources in rural areas.
