In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to digital transformation by intensifying efforts to establish a one-stop portal for all government services.
The initiative aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to digitize 75% of government services by 2027. As part of this drive, NITDA is actively engaging stakeholders and exploring global best practices to ensure the successful implementation of Nigeria’s digital governance framework.
NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, made this known when he hosted a delegation from the Ukrainian Embassy in Nigeria, led by Ambassador Ivan Kholostenko, at the agency’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. The discussions focused on potential collaborations to enhance productivity, transparency, and trust in government operations.
Inuwa highlighted NITDA’s pivotal role in designing, standardizing, and strategizing the implementation of a centralized e-government platform. While previous attempts, such as the OneGov.net initiative, have been made, renewed commitment and extensive research have reinvigorated efforts to actualize the vision.
“We have been studying how countries like the UK and Kenya have successfully implemented digital governance platforms. While these models may not be directly transferable, we can learn from their experiences to develop a framework suited to Nigeria,” Inuwa stated.
The NITDA boss also stressed the need for a strong legal framework to support the digital transformation initiative. He explained that in some countries, government agencies provide services through an Application Programming Interface (API), while others operate through legally backed centralized portals.
“If we want to achieve this, we must have the necessary legal structures in place and initiate the process of enacting relevant laws to facilitate a seamless digital transformation,” he added.
To ensure alignment with global standards, NITDA is also collaborating with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to gain valuable insights into structuring Nigeria’s digital transformation roadmap.
“This initiative is a critical step towards enhancing efficiency, reducing corruption, and promoting transparency in government operations. By leveraging global best practices and aligning with national policies, we aim to create a smart, seamless, and citizen-friendly government service experience,” Inuwa emphasized.
The visit of the Ukrainian delegation further reinforced NITDA’s commitment to fostering international partnerships in digital governance. Ukraine’s Diia platform, which integrates all state services into a single application, was highlighted as a model of efficient digital government service delivery.
