NITDA Signs Strategic MoUs with Canadian Tech Firms to Accelerate Nigeria’s Digital Transformation

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Canadian technology companies Goose FL and Fireflies AI to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and accelerate the deployment of innovative technologies across the country.

The agreements were signed during the Nigeria–Canada Investment Forum and the Nigeria Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada, and witnessed by NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.

The partnerships focus on three key areas: expanding financial inclusion, developing local Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.

Under the financial inclusion component, the collaboration will support the development of innovative technology solutions aimed at expanding access to digital financial services and creating sustainable economic opportunities for underserved communities.

The partnership will also promote the establishment of indigenous AI infrastructure and services, strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to develop, manage and derive value from AI technologies locally.

Beyond AI and financial inclusion, the agreements are expected to facilitate technology transfer, innovation and digital capacity development through stronger collaboration between Nigeria and global technology companies.

NITDA said the partnerships aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of transforming Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy by 2030, with innovation, digital technology and human capital development serving as key drivers of growth.

The agency noted that strategic international partnerships such as these would help position Nigeria as a leading digital economy while ensuring that emerging technologies, particularly AI, translate into tangible benefits for citizens and businesses.

The MoUs therefore mark another step in Nigeria’s efforts to deepen global technology partnerships, strengthen its digital infrastructure and build an inclusive, innovation-driven economy.
