Ugochi Akwiwu, Lead, Drilling and Completion Engineer at NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), has received the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Outstanding Leadership and Service Award for her contribution to the organisation and the success of its flagship conference.
Akwiwu received the prestigious recognition at the SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) 2026 Dinner and Awards Night held recently in Lagos.
The award is reserved for past SPE Nigeria Council and NAICE Conference Chairs who have demonstrated exceptional service to the Council and contributed significantly to the successful delivery of the annual conference and exhibition.
Akwiwu served as Conference Chair of SPE NAICE 2025, which attracted more than 3,000 delegates and over 60 exhibitors.
The 2025 edition was held under the theme, “Building a Sustainable Energy Future: Leveraging Technology, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Policy,” bringing together key stakeholders and professionals across Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Her recognition underscored her leadership, professionalism and contribution to advancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the petroleum industry.
NNPC Limited said the award reflected the company’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Sustainability, noting that the successful execution of industry-wide conferences and professional fora demonstrates excellence in action.
The company added that the recognition also highlights the strategic contributions of its professionals to the growth and development of Nigeria’s energy sector and the broader global energy industry.
