The Chairman, National Population Commission NPC, Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra said the roles of the media in ensuring the 2023 Census cannot be overemphasized, saying the commission was irrevocably committed towards the 2023 population and housing census.
He made this remarks on Thursday at Palm Hotel , Central Business District Abuja during a luncheon organised for Editors, Bureau Chiefs and Population Correspondents at Palm Hotel Central Business District CBD , Abuja.
The NPC top notcher stated that media had been a great partner in ensuring the success of the forthcoming census.
He said the commission had no any other magic wand in the execution of the next year’s census, apart from partnering with the media for it’s success.
Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra commended the media industry for synergizing with the commission towards the success of the next year’s population and housing census, while lauding the online media for their exceptional and complimentary roles in that regard.
He said the commission had demarcated 773 local government areas including the high security threatened area of Birnin- Gwari local government area in Kaduna State, with Abadam in Borno State still outstanding , which will be resolved soonest.
“We have conducted the trial census with alot of revelations and taking stocks of some amendments to guide our activities in the forthcoming population and housing census.”
“We are carrying out surveys on six states in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria,while commending Nigeria’s President in that regard .”
Kwarra maintained the determination of the commission to carry out a reliable digital census that will be acceptable to all and sundry is non- negotiable.
“We have about 17% percent as against 30% we met on ground as per civic registration and intend to carry out full automation going forward.” Kwarra said.
He also commended Development partners for their forthright and determination as well as NGOs and CSO’s towards a successful census in 2023.
