The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has applauded the Kwara State Government for its prompt and decisive action against Hajia Fatimoh Nike Hamzat, a teacher at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, who assaulted a female Corps Member serving at the school.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, NYSC expressed satisfaction with the findings of the investigative panel set up by the state government. The panel, which adhered strictly to Public Service Rules, sanctioned the teacher for her misconduct, a move the scheme described as fair and commendable.
Meanwhile,the NYSC DG, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has reaffirmed the scheme’s zero-tolerance policy for the maltreatment of Corps Members, who he said are on national duty and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. He emphasized that welfare and security of Corps Members remained the top priority of his administration.
According to the NYSC, the incident occurred when the teacher verbally and physically assaulted the Corps Member over an alleged failure to “greet properly.” The law-abiding Corps Member reported the matter to the NYSC, which then forwarded the complaint to the Kwara State Government for intervention.
Brigadier General Ahmed commended the state government for its professionalism in handling the case and called on employers and host communities to support Corps Members in their roles as agents of national unity and development.
He also encouraged all Corps Members to remain committed to their Oath of Allegiance and continue contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic progress as responsible ambassadors of the Scheme.
NYSC said it remained resolute in protecting its members from any form of harassment or injustice while fostering their contributions to nation-building.
