The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to expand its ongoing digital training initiative for Corps Members and youths across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, made this known on Monday during the ground-breaking ceremony of an ICT Hub at the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Training Centre in Kagarko, Kaduna State.
Speaking at the event, General Ahmed commended Wema Bank for its partnership in the project, stressed the need for its speedy completion to enable beneficiaries to access digital training and skill development opportunities.
“This collaboration with Wema Bank will significantly enhance the ICT capabilities of Corps Members and youths in Kagarko and beyond. I urge all beneficiaries to make good use of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance,” he said.
The ICT Hub, when completed, will offer digital skills training to Corps Members, students, and youths within Kagarko and neighboring communities, equipping them with tools for technological advancement and entrepreneurship.
Wema Bank’s Executive Director, Mr. Tunde Mabawonku, reiterated the bank’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians. He noted that the bank has consistently supported entrepreneurs and would continue investing in initiatives that drive youth employment and digital literacy.
“We believe digital skills are crucial for economic growth. This project aligns with our commitment to youth empowerment, and we are excited to see the impact it will create,” Mabawonku stated.
Also speaking, the Director of SAED, Mr. Kehinde Aremu, emphasized that the ICT Hub would complement government efforts to improve digital literacy and equip Nigerian youths with relevant skills for the evolving job market.
The Chairman of Kagarko Local Government Area, Hon. Mujihideen Abdullahi Umar, expressed appreciation to both NYSC and Wema Bank for the initiative, pledging to ensure the centre’s proper utilization and security upon completion.
The project mark a significant step in NYSC’s broader effort to enhance Corps Members’ employability and self-reliance through digital proficiency.
