The Ogbomoso Restoration Movement (ORM) is set to honour the life and legacy of the late Professor Oyekale Oyedeji (1942–2025), a globally celebrated physicist and mathematician of Ogbomoso descent, with a valedictory lecture on science, technology, and innovation.
The lecture, titled “Smart Futures: Harnessing Science, Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Development in Africa,” is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 22nd May 2025 at 10:00 am at THE HALL, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.
A professor from the prestigious Morehouse College, Atlanta, USA, will deliver the keynote lecture. The academic will examine how advancements in technology and scientific research can be transformed into innovative and scalable solutions capable of addressing sustainability challenges across the African continent.
The event will also emphasize the importance of cross-sector collaboration between academia, industry, and government in driving systemic transformation for sustainable development.
Professor Akintade Oyedele Dare, a renowned medical academic and innovation leader, will serve as the keynote speaker. The Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Professor Rom. Olatunde Kaliliu, will deliver a goodwill message.
The occasion will be graced by the presence of the traditional ruler of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso, as the Special Guest of Honour.
Organizers stated that the lecture not only celebrate the legacy of the late Professor Oyedeji but also serve as a platform to inspire a new generation of African scientists, innovators, and policymakers.
