The newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, has assumed duty with a call for strengthened collaboration among government agencies, humanitarian organisations, development partners, donors, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Olusanya emphasized that effective coordination is essential to delivering meaningful impact to vulnerable groups across the country. He noted that the Ministry’s programmes directly affect the lives of the elderly, persons with disabilities, distressed families, internally displaced persons, refugees, migrants, and other persons of concern.
“The Ministry cannot work in silos. When we perform, the whole country will feel the impact; when we do not perform, Nigerians will not feel the impact,” he said. He pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor, improve staff welfare, and strengthen staff capacity and development.
Outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, who has been deployed to the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, commended the competence and professionalism of the Ministry’s workforce. He urged management and staff to extend the same cooperation he enjoyed to his successor, to ensure continuity and improved service delivery.
Director of Human Resource Management, Onyia-Desy Chinyere Hilda, in her vote of thanks, praised Dr. Kofarmata for his open-door leadership style and contributions to advancing the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians. She assured Mr. Olusanya of the commitment and support of management and staff to achieving the Ministry’s mandate.
A symbolic signing of handing-over documents by both Permanent Secretaries marked the high point of the brief ceremony.
Also in attendance were Directors and staff of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as well as representatives from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
