Ooni congratulates Acting IGP Disu, advocates Intelligence-Driven Policing to tackle insecurity

The Ooni of Ife and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has congratulated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged him to adopt a renewed and strategic approach to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch described Disu’s appointment as timely, noting that it comes at a period when the country faces complex and evolving security threats.

The royal father expressed confidence in the Acting IGP’s professional experience, operational competence, and leadership capacity, stating that his track record within the Nigeria Police Force positions him to deliver focused and result-oriented leadership.

According to the statement, the Ooni called for a comprehensive security strategy anchored on intelligence-driven policing, improved welfare for officers, enhanced community engagement, and stronger collaboration among security agencies nationwide.

He stressed that restoring public trust and confidence in the police institution remains essential to achieving sustainable peace, stability, and national cohesion.

The monarch also urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to support the Acting IGP in consolidating ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Force as a professional, accountable, and people-oriented institution.

While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as decisive leadership, the Ooni reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to support lawful and constitutional efforts geared towards protecting lives and property across the country.

He further appreciated the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his service to the nation and prayed for continued success in his future endeavours.

The Ooni concluded by wishing the Acting IGP wisdom, courage, and divine guidance as he assumes office at a critical moment in Nigeria’s security landscape.
