The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced that about 100 diplomatic missions, alongside the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, as well as top security experts, intelligence officers, policy makers, trade agencies, and civil society organisations, will participate in an upcoming high-level international conference in Abuja.
The Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference is scheduled for May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
According to DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, the summit will provide a critical platform for global stakeholders to examine emerging threats to international stability, with a particular focus on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a growing tool used to destabilise relations between nations and disrupt global markets.
The conference, themed: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media,” will explore how coordinated efforts among diplomacy, intelligence, and the media can counter disinformation and promote global stability.
Organisers noted that the event comes at a critical time as escalating tensions in the Gulf continue to affect global energy markets and trade dynamics. The resulting volatility, they said, underscores the urgent need for credible and transparent information to prevent panic and maintain investor confidence.
The discussions will also focus on combating state-sponsored misinformation, often referred to as “fake news,” which can inflame conflicts, distort realities, and trigger economic instability across regions.
Participants are expected to examine how improved information sharing and diplomatic intelligence can help de-escalate tensions, particularly in conflict-prone areas such as the Middle East, while strengthening international cooperation.
The conference will further explore strategies to safeguard global trade routes, restore investor confidence, and promote peace through dialogue by separating propaganda from verified information.
With participation from key international and domestic stakeholders, the event is expected to position Nigeria as a central hub for conversations at the intersection of security, diplomacy, and global economic stability.
