Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called for the restoration of the National Chairmanship position to the North Central Zone following the resignation of Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
In a communique issued after their meeting in Abuja, the party’s elders emphasized the need to uphold the PDP Constitution, which mandates that vacant positions be filled by appointees from the zone where the office was originally allocated. The stakeholders referenced Section 47(6) of the party’s constitution as the basis for their demand.
The North Central Zone leaders appealed to their counterparts in other Northern zones to allow the region to complete its tenure as National Chairman, noting that this move would help rebuild trust and unity within the party.
“The leadership of the party must rise to the occasion by adhering to the constitution, making sacrifices, and fostering goodwill to restore cohesion and confidence,” the communique stated.
The stakeholders also highlighted the importance of building consensus and ensuring widespread support for the restoration of the chairmanship to the North Central Zone.
The PDP leaders urged the party’s national leadership to prioritize constitutional adherence, unity, and inclusivity. They reiterated their commitment to preserving the PDP as a strong platform for good governance and democratic values in Nigeria.
