Police assure Nigerians of Heightened Security Amid Middle East Tensions

The Nigeria Police Force has reassured Nigerians of sustained nationwide security vigilance following evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global implications.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and maintaining national peace, stressing that Nigeria remains stable with its internal security situation firmly under control.

According to the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer,ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police have strengthened proactive and intelligence-led policing strategies across the country as a precautionary measure.

The acting IGP directed Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering, particularly in the North West, North East, and North Central zones. He also ordered enhanced collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, increased visibility policing around worship centres and public spaces, and swift action against any individuals or groups attempting to exploit global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tension.
The Police leadership emphasized that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts, warning that attempts to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country would be met with the full weight of the law.

IGP Disu further urged community leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence, while calling on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

The Force reiterated its readiness and resolve to safeguard all Nigerians and sustain national security at all times.
