Retirees of the defunct Nigerian Airways have called on the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to assist in resolving longstanding pension challenges. The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, met on Tuesday with representatives of the Association of Airways Retired Workers of Nigeria (AARWN) to discuss the matter.
The meeting centered on the proposed onboarding of Nigerian Airways pensioners onto the pension payroll. In attendance were AARWN Chairman Mr. Onuh Stephen and Mr. Ahmed Sulu Gambari, who represented the collective concerns of retirees.
In her response, Ms. Odunaiya acknowledged the retirees’ concerns and reaffirmed PTAD’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme. She clarified that the Directorate operates strictly within its statutory mandate and cannot verify or onboard pensioners without formal directives from the relevant authorities.
She further advised that the association continue engagement with the appropriate authorities to facilitate the inclusion of its members existing pensioners of Nigerian Airways prior to its liquidation—onto the pension payroll.
