The ongoing political crisis in Rivers State has escalated as the State House of Assembly has officially served Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Dr. Ngozi Odu, with a notice of gross misconduct.
The lawmakers, in a document sighted by News Band Newspaper, stated that their action was in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
The notice reads in part:
“In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other extant laws, we, the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office.”
This development marks a new phase in the political face-off between Governor Fubara and the state legislature, which has been locked in a power struggle for months.
While details of the allegations remain unclear, sources suggest they are linked to the lingering feud between the governor and a faction of lawmakers reportedly loyal to his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike.
