The Rotary Club of Central Business District (CBD), Abuja, has honoured the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, for his outstanding leadership and commitment to public service.
The honour was conferred during a courtesy visit by the Club to the Permanent Secretary’s office in Abuja on Tuesday. The delegation was led by the Club President, Rotarian Kate Adamu, MFR, PHF.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Pheelangwah expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, noting that Rotary International has consistently championed humanitarian causes that have transformed communities across Nigeria and beyond.
“I deeply appreciate this honour and recognition. Rotary International has shown consistent dedication to humanitarian causes, and I am encouraged to do even more in supporting your initiatives,” he said.
He commended the Club’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian services and pledged his continued support for its community development efforts, especially those focused on rural areas.
Rotarian Kate Adamu, in her remarks, said the recognition was a reflection of the Club’s commitment to promoting ethical leadership and excellence in public and private service.
“Your name came up at our board meeting and was unanimously approved for this award. Though the official ceremony was initially scheduled for last year, we believe it is never too late to recognize a deserving individual of your calibre,” she stated.
She added that the presentation was timely as the Rotary year ends on June 30, and her tenure as Club President concludes on July 1.
Also speaking, Rotarian Evelyn Onyilo, a former Assistant Governor of Rotary, highlighted the Club’s numerous projects, particularly those aimed at improving the lives of people in underserved communities. She encouraged the Permanent Secretary and other public-spirited individuals to join Rotary in its mission.
The high point of the visit was the formal presentation of the Award of Excellence, Leadership, and Service, along with a Rotary banner, to the Permanent Secretary in recognition of his contributions to public service and community development.
