The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday, July 10, 2025, affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, bringing an end to all legal disputes arising from the 2024 governorship election.
In his reaction to the judgment, Governor Okpebholo described the ruling as not just a legal victory, but a reaffirmation of the mandate freely given by the people of Edo State. He said the moment mark a fresh chapter in the state’s political history one grounded in unity, inclusiveness, and accelerated development.
Governor Okpebholo expressed profound appreciation to the judiciary for upholding justice and to the people of Edo State for their patience, support, and unwavering faith in democracy.
“This is not a personal victory,” the governor said. “It is a shared triumph for every Edo citizen, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliation.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on key areas such as security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation.
In a show of statesmanship, Governor Okpebholo extended an olive branch to his political opponents and called on all stakeholders to join hands in building a prosperous Edo State.
“The elections are over; the work of governance must begin. Constructive criticism and diverse perspectives are welcome, but must be guided by a shared desire to see Edo thrive,” he stated.
He urged political leaders across party lines to rise above division, close ranks, and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
