TGF celebrates Alhaji Salihu Abubakar Tanko Yakasai at 100 …. Says it’s A Century of Progressive Leadership and Legacy

The Transformative Governance Forum (TGF) today honored Alhaji Salihu Abubakar Tanko Yakasai, as he celebrate his remarkable 100th birthday, marking a lifetime of unwavering dedication to social justice, democratic ideals, and the welfare of Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens.

In a heartfelt tribute, the TGF highlighted Alhaji Salihu’s exceptional role in shaping the country’s political landscape, particularly through his pioneering efforts with the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), the radical movement co-founded by the legendary Malam Aminu Kano. This movement, built on socialist principles, sought to challenge the deeply entrenched political and feudal structures that marginalized Nigeria’s common people, or Talakawa.

The TGF commended Alhaji Salihu as a visionary leader whose commitment to the core ideals of NEPU equity, social justice, and accountable governance has been unwavering.

“Alhaji Salihu’s life and work epitomize the ideals of progressive leadership,” the statement read. “He has consistently placed the welfare of the common man at the center of his political philosophy, ensuring that the needs of the marginalized remain a priority in Nigeria’s ever-evolving political discourse.”

A staunch advocate for democratic socialism, Alhaji Salihu has always believed that true progress can only be achieved through inclusive governance, economic justice, and the empowerment of the people. His tireless efforts in promoting these values, both within and outside the corridors of power, have earned him widespread respect, culminating in the national recognition of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), one of Nigeria’s highest honors.

The TGF also acknowledged his continued influence on the country’s political scene, emphasizing his role in ensuring that the foundational principles of NEPU remain relevant to the present-day political landscape. “To honor Alhaji Salihu is to honor the living spirit of NEPU,” the statement continued. “His work has kept the struggle for social justice alive, and his legacy continues to inspire those who believe in the power of governance to uplift the people.”

In recognizing Alhaji Salihu’s centenary, the TGF noted that his work has transcended generations, with his ideas continuing to shape the path toward a fairer and more just Nigeria. His unflinching belief in the value of democratic socialism and his commitment to the people have made him a beacon for those fighting for systemic change.

The TGF also expressed its deepest respect for the centenarian, wishing him continued health and happiness as he celebrates this momentous milestone. “Your life is a testament to the enduring fight for justice, equality, and the empowerment of the people,” the tribute concluded. “We pray that Almighty Allah continues to bless you with strength and fulfillment as you witness the further growth of the principles you have long championed.”

Alhaji Salihu Abubakar Tanko Yakasai’s contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution stand as a lasting legacy, and at 100 years old, his impact remained as significant as ever. As Nigeria continue to navigate its democratic journey, his ideals and vision will undoubtedly continue to inspire generations of leaders and citizens committed to a just and prosperous future for all.
