President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors comprising 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career nominees to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions across the world and the United Nations.
The ambassadors-designate had earlier been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.
According to a State House statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the postings cover strategic missions in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and multilateral institutions.
Among the prominent non-career appointees, former Cross River senator Grace Bent has been posted to Togo, while former presidential aide Ita Enang will serve in South Africa.
Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose ally and ex-Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro was posted to Australia, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode will head Nigeria’s mission in Germany.
Also on the list are former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, to France, and former Inspector-General of Police Muhammadu Yakubu to Qatar.
Other notable postings include businessman and former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, former Chief of Naval Staff Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to the Philippines, and social commentator Reno Omokri to Mexico.
The statement also listed former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau as ambassador to China and former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lateef Kayode Are, as Nigeria’s envoy to the United States.
In the career ambassador category, several seasoned diplomats were assigned to key missions, including Egypt, Belgium, Morocco, India, Ghana, Senegal, and Kenya.
The Presidency further disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu, while the government of France has approved the appointment of Ayo Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador to Paris.
According to the statement, nominations of the remaining envoys have been transmitted to their respective host countries with requests for agrément in line with standard diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu has also directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.
